FARM LIFE

my husband said we don't take enough risks... so with very little experience we bought a farm!! (it was that easy ~ NOT!!) at least three things a day happen that amaze me & i LOVE it!

Glenmoore Farm welcomes... triplets!!!

WHAT…!!??

sooooooo I’m running an errand & Mike calls me… it’s around 6pm so getting dark. He says he can hear a lamb bleating in our field ~ my immediate thought… Desmond is inside, probably lounging on the couch watching TV.

I said I had no idea & if he finds anything call me immediately ❤️.

Mike calls again & says you’re not going to believe this! I’m all ears eagerly waiting… he continues, I’ve found a lamb… it’s Alice’s… then I found another one & then another!! HAHAHA!! no way!! We both laughed, what a surprise!! what joy lambs bring, or any offspring!! except for spiders & most creepy crawlies… but that’s just my opinion.

Mike says he’s off to the store to get meconium & bottles before it shuts. We hang up & I’m thinking ‘meconium’, that doesn’t sound right… wait a minute meconium is the first poo, he means colostrum… !! I call & say don’t ask for that!

I rush home & call Mrs Edling on the way… because there’s only one sheep that can be the father… ~ Stan the Man!!! He’s a baby doll, very short legs & very old… but apparently still firing on all cylinders!! I really didn’t think he had it in him… He’s in the field smoking cigars blowing out rings.

Flynn had got Alice in a shed with all the lambs… I think she was in shock!! Next thing I call Pam, the sheep guru!! She explains what we should do & Mike, Gus, Flynn & I get on it… Alice wasn’t having any of it, no fresh milk for anyone :( I climb underneath with a bowl & start to milk her… managing to get a few drops out which I then get dirt in & we are no farther along.

After a few more tussles, hoof kicks, running around the field, failed milking attempts, trying to force teats into lambs mouths we call it a night… we feel defeated but still buzzing that this even happened!!

We start making bottles & they all took some colostrum… YAY!

They are so small & wrinkly ~ I still can’t believe Alice did this all on her own (the birth bit, I know how the other thing happens!)… we had no idea she was even with lambs in the oven… wheres the placenta? We checked our shoes before we came in.

HOORAY for all the happiness this brings & friends that know what to do!! & give the extra hands!
